HOURS OF WORK

All employees, including part-time, casual, freelance and agency staff but not managing and executive staff and family members, are entitled to:
  • Work no more than 6days out of 7
  • A Rest of 30 minutes every six hours, if working longer than 6 hours
  • A minimum of daily rest of 11 consecutive hours in a 24 hours day
  • A maximum average of 48 hours' work in 7 days including overtimes
Employees making their own decisions because of the nature of the job for example senior managers can opt out of the working time regulations but it should be the employee choice and not force to do so.

HOLIDAYS
In England and Wales, there are usually eight bank or public holidays each year. Under the Regulations, the right to four week's leave is not additional to public holidays. Therefore, public holidays can be included as part of worker's statutory annual leave entitlement. As part of its election campaign, labour pledged to ensure that public holidays would be given in addition to the four weeks' statutory leave, if it secured a third term in government. Now the new proposal is as follows, as from October 2007 the first four days out of the 8 bank holidays will be excluded from the statutory leave and then as from October 2008 the total 8 bank holidays will be excluded from statutory leave.
